Social Activities

In the Students' Union

Freshman Year

In my freshman year, I joined the Students' Union of SEIEE (our school) as a member of Network Department. Since the Students' Union of SEIEE is the biggest one compared to those in other schools in SJTU, what we do is really interesting and meaningful. Our department has two goals: manage those public OSN accounts and publish news, and provide technology support for the whole SU, even for our school.

During that year, I wrote some articals for our accounts and was later assigned leader for publicity support for the events and activities SU holds.

Sophomore Year

I chose to stay in SU, and was able to be elected as the next minister (director) of Network Department. During this year, I figured that our technology support could come in many ways and make a difference (traditionally we were constrained to maintain those websites). Then we developed a good-looking 'bullet screen' system and it was used in every later social events and galas, making everyone really happy. We also implement a online problem system for one of SU's big events. In one round of that contest, the participants are asked to solve myths and find destinations around our huge campus. This round lasts for several days. With our system, these participants can now find a covert QR code around the destination and scan it to submit. Then they get their new problems. God knows how this round operated before we created our system.

Also, we've made our OSN accounts far more popular. Now an article we've posted will be viewed by more than thousands people very easily, and sometimes this number even reaches to 10k.

I really enjoyed my time in SU, and learned a lot, which I hope I have passed on to the next guys.

Other Activities

  • Social Practice. In the summer before my sophomore year, our group created a social practice program, aiming to visit some of those famous Internet companies in China to learn what's going on with the brand new idea 'Smary City'. We paid our visit to Tencent, Huawei, TP-LINK, and a headquater of China Mobile, during which we've learnt a lot about how city life was made better by cloud service, smart appliances and mobile applications. Our program was awarded Excellent Program(Second Class) of SJTU later.
  • Volunteering. I've attended many volunteering activities, and there's one I must say. Once we paid a visit to a local care house for children with mental disabilities. Some of the kids were young, while some had even become adults. That house might be where they belonged for their life. We played together, drew pictures and tried to talk. When we were leaving, many of them asked if we would come again. Due to many reasons, I haven't paid my second visit there, but I think I will in the next semester.
  • Blood Donation. China faces a severe blood shortage. My mom is a nurse, who knows that very well and donates blood twice a year. I once donated in SJTU. And thanks to my healthy living habits, I didn't feel weak at all. That's always a proud experience.
